Would you like to ride a bike around Lake Constance? Do you like to do sports, but also nature and sights are important to you? Do you like to move, want to enjoy your bike tour as a vacation? If that applies to you, then you've come to the right place. We see cycling as our work equalization and as an experience. We enjoy cycling as well as the sightseeing and the great nature.

That is why we made a 4-day tour around Lake Constance for two. We would be happy to give you our best tips and our conclusion. You will receive information from us about the best stops, beautiful bathing areas and opportunities for sightseeing.

Preparations for the bike tour

So that you can enjoy your bike tour, you need a few basic equipment. Otherwise, your cozy Lake Constance tour could quickly become uncomfortable.

The right clothing

In order to be able to sit on the bike saddle for a long time, it requires padded bicycle pants.

Be sure to use bicycle pants with padding on the bike saddle. Otherwise, you may not be able to sit on the saddle on the second day. Make sure that the pants are adequately padded and try them out on a shorter route in front of your Lake Constance bike tour.

Pleasant, sweat -sucking shirts are essential when driving.

Take loose sports shirts as the top. These suck your sweat up and keep you dry. The shirt should be comfortable and not too tight so that you can move enough.

Rain jacket to cycle.

If the rain catches up with you, you should be equipped for it. In any case, take a rain jacket and a helmet coating. So that at least your upper body and the head stay dry.

Opportunities for luggage transport

In order to distribute the weight of your luggage sufficiently, you should have 2 pack bags for the luggage rack. A bag holds 25 liters. 50 liters are more than sufficient for a multi -day bike exit. They are 100% waterproof, so no problem when it rains. We recommend that you have a backpack for little things and your valuables. You should only fill this with minimal weight. The majority of your luggage belongs to the bike bags. The backpack is worth gold, especially for bathing clothes, money pockets and cell phones.

If you don't want to have your luggage yourself, there is one here Possibility to transport luggage.

In addition, you should have a replacement hose on every bike tour, one Mini pump and patch stuff. If you have a plate on the track, that's essential.

Hotel reservations

You can also spontaneously book your accommodations on the way. However, we recommend that you do this in advance. The Lake Constance cycle path is heavily frequented in summer and accordingly many good hotels are fully booked. So reserve your hotels better in advance. When booking, make sure that the hotel can be canceled. It is particularly pleasant in terms of the weather if you can cancel spontaneously if the weather conditions are not good. We have extended in Constance, Nonnenhorn and Immenstaad and were very satisfied with our hotels.

Here are our personal recommendations, from the hotels in which we have extended:
-Konstanz: Wiestentäler Hof
-Mimmenstaad: Landhaus Müller
-Nonnenhorn: Hotel and restaurant Adler

TAG1: From Gaissau (Austria) via Switzerland to Constance - 50 kilometers

Bike tour around Lake Constance. From Gaissau to Constance.

We started in Austria in the municipality of Gaissau and cycled across the border to Switzerland. We covered the Swiss Lake Constance bank on the first day. Depending on the condition, this route can of course also halve and take an overnight stay in Switzerland. A large part of Lake Constance is privatized in Switzerland. This means that it is not accessible to the public. However, there are a few isolated swimming opportunities.

Güttingen bathing place in Switzerland.

We found a great free swimming option in the last third of the first section. The lake is very clear there and there is also a catering option and toilets. The Bathplace Güttingen It's super great to relax and very well maintained.

If there is time in Constance, we recommend that especially for families with children Sea Life in Constance. If the planning permits, the Sea Life is definitely worth his visit. A ticket for an adult costs just under € 17.

Day 2: From Constance via the island of Mainau to Immenstaad - 60km

From Constance to Immenstaad.

If you want to see some of the sights that are mainly between Bodman and Immenstaad, we recommend that you take 2 days to take your time.

Recommended sights on this stage:
-Plower island of Mainau
-S island of Reichenau
-Dätchen Überlingen
-Birnau monastery
-Apensberg Salem
-
-Tätken Meersburg with castle
-DIVERS BATH OPTIONS AND BEAUTION SHARE

The Mainau flower island in Germany.

We went to the beautiful in the morning for a visit to the beautiful Mainau flower island decided. It can be reached by Konstanz directly by bike. The path is well signposted and very nice to drive. The island costs 22 € for an adult. This seems a bit. In our opinion, the great island is definitely worth it. It is great for families with children but also for couples. In addition to the idyllic flowers, there is a butterfly house, a palace and of course a unique view of Lake Constance.

Island of Reichenau in Germany.

In addition to the Mainau, there is still the possibility Reichenau island to visit. Also a beautiful island and a lot to experience. The Reichenau is even a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In contrast to the Mainau, you can even spend the night on Reichenau.

After that, we continued to Bodman Ludwigshafen without a great interruption. This is the northernmost place of the Lake Constance shore. There are also fine swimming opportunities there. Either you visit the lido Or use the public lawns that are located directly on the bike path.

Apple plantations on the Lake Constance path.

The path from the island of Mainau to Bodman Ludwigshafen is the only section on which it is hilly. If you stick to the official bike path, this is not a problem, so it usually works flat. However, we took the wrong route and had it very steeply. That is why we recommend: Always stay on the official bike path unless you wanted to do an extra lung training.

The Café Solid Ground in Überlingen.

From Bodman Ludwigshafen it continues through that Town Überlingen. There we definitely recommend that we make a stopover. There is an extraordinary café in which the beans themselves are roasted. The Solid ground convinced by his calm and modern flair. It is very cozy and the coffee tastes exceptionally good. A wide variety of coffee creations on the coffee card invite you to linger.

The Birnau church, from the bike path.

In the small village it stands on a hill on the hill Birnau monastery. All baroque fans are exactly right here. The church can be seen from the bike path because it is on the hill. Alone because of the fantastic view, she is worth a visit.

Affenberg in Salem.

Not directly on Lake Constance, but it is no less exciting Affenberg in Salem. Not only an experience for children, but also for adults. 200 whipped mountain monkeys live on an area of 20 hectare forest. It is about 15 minutes from Birnau, cozy cycling to the Affenberg.

Pile dwellings in Unteruhldingen.

There is a very special and unique sightseeing highlight in Unteruhldingen: the Pile dwellingsIt is the oldest open -air museum in Germany. You get an impression of the life of the people in the Stone Age to the Bronze Age. You have the Lake Constance panorama in the background and hike through the pile structures over the footbridge.

Meersburg-AM-Bodensee

Now it goes on to the next cities of Highlight: Sea castle. We also strongly recommend that we make a stopover. There is a great one LidoThat invites you to relax bathing. Meersburg is also known for his castle With the enchanting view. A visit to the Meersburg with its exciting museum is definitely worth it.

The old town also has its flair and invites you to stroll and eat ice cream. From Meersburg to Immenstaad it can still be driven almost 10 kilometers. We chose Immenstaad as a sleeping place because it is a somewhat smaller place. The price performance ratio is very good.

Day 3: From Immenstaad to the health resort of Nonnenhorn - 25km

Lake Constance circulation by bike. From Immenstaad to Nonnenhorn

On the third day of the bike tour around Lake Constance, we took it very comfortably. Immenstaad is a small town that is located directly on Lake Constance. There we spent half the day with swimming. There is a nice lido, but you can also use the public lawn. That's how we did it. The water is very clear at this point and invites you to swim.

By bike on the banks of Friedrichshafen.

Fresh and relaxed it went on towards Nonnenhorn. You come through the well -known place Friedrichshafen. It is definitely worth a stopover in Friedrichshafen. This offers an interesting sightseeing highlight Castle with the castle churchYou can also just walk along the waterfront and enjoy the beautiful view.

Bridge: Friedrichshafening to Nonnenhorn.

The route from Friedrichshafen to Nonnenhorn is 15km long. It is very pleasant and nice to drive. It only goes flat and the fantastic nature can be enjoyed to the fullest.

Day 4: From the health resort of Nonnenhorn to the starting point Gaissau - 30km

From Nonnenhorn to Gaissau, along the Bodenseeufer.

Nonnenhorn is a small curative. Hence very relaxing and quiet. There are nice restaurants and a few bars in which you can end the day in peace.

The port entrance of Lindau.

From Nonnenhorn we are still over Lindau. Lindau has a lot to offer. The port entrance alone is worth a visit. The Bavarian lion and the lighthouse result in an impressive sight. There are in the west that Lindau island.  This can be reached from country and also a great highlight on a Lake Constance bike tour.

Bregenz Festival

The City of Bregenz is known for their annual summer festival. A new opera is performed every 2 years. The breathtaking backdrop on Lake Constance makes the spectacle unique and famous worldwide. The sea stage can be visited free of charge during the day. We definitely recommend this to look at this.

Now it is still 15 km on the Austrian Lake Constance side to the starting point and at the same time endpoint Gaissau.

We hope our journey around Lake Constance and you can also use a lot of information for your bike tour. With this in mind, we wish you a lot of fun with your Lake Constance circulation and sporty greetings Rebekka and Sebastian
